Group Counsellors (Minimum recommended age is 16)

  • sets a good example for campers by being conscientious, supportive of camp policies and is enthusiastic about the camp experience

  • Completes a written report for each camper in his/her care

  • develops a close relationship with each camper in the group and is aware of individual problems and special needs, always being available to help and guide

  • participates in pre-camp training events prior to the summer

  • participates in planning special programs for the group or the larger unit or even camp-wide events as well as regular weekly staff meetings and evaluation sessions

  • shares lunch time with group and sees that campers enjoy their meals, maintain decorum and complete their clean-up responsibilities

  • ensures that campers follow daily routines related to care of belongings, health and cleanliness, proper rest, punctuality and participation in activities

  • plan daily programs with their cabin group and accompanies and participates with the group at all camp activities and specialties

  • works alongside a co-counsellor with a group of 10 to 14 campers.

Specialty Counsellors

  • should have all attributes of a good counsellor plus specific skills in the area of instruction

  • be sufficiently skilled and experienced to plan, organize and teach various ages over the entire summer

  • have the necessary qualifications and certifications where possible or necessary in the specific teaching area

  • participates in pre-camp training events prior to the summer

Section Heads (Minimum 3 years of camp or related experience)

These individuals are responsible for 7 to 12 groups (depending on the section) and the counsellors in the area. Briefly the job description is as follows:

  • supervise the counsellors

  • establish training procedures before and during camp

  • oversee the programs planned by the counsellors

  • become the figure head for the counsellors and campers

  • take part in the regular Senior Staff meetings and the decision making process

  • handle the administration required to make the area function efficiently

  • be available to the parents of campers

  • write a complete summary of the summer and recommendations for improvements at its completion

  • participates in the pre-camp training events prior to the summer speciality

Specialty Head
(Minimum 3 years of camp or related experience)

These individuals are responsible for one of the instructional areas of camp, i.e. Swim, Music & Drama, Dance, Arts & Crafts, Canoeing, Outdoor Adventures (initiative & cooperative activities), Campcraft or Sports & Fitness. Although these are specific areas of instruction, the programs are offered as tools for group interaction as well as to allow the camper to learn some skills and in particular develop an appreciation for the activity. Briefly the job description is as follows:

  • decide on the program to be used and do the ordering for the area

  • establish training procedures for the activity staff and group counsellors before and during camp

  • develop weekly schedules

  • oversee the program; supervise the staff

  • take part in regular Senior Staff meetings and the decision making process

  • handle the administration required to make the area function efficiently

  • write a complete summary of the summer which include recommendations for future improvements, an inventory of supplies and a suggested order for the next summer

  • participates in pre-camp training events prior to the summer

Positions at Robin Hood Sports Academy

All RHSA staff are encouraged to have at least Level One Coaching certification and preferably Technical Certification. Preference is given to Coaches who are actively playing their sport of preference.

Coaches (Minimum recommended age is 17)

Depending on their background and our program needs, coaches may be required to teach more than one sport. We attempt to have 2 coaches for every 8-10 players. Coaches will teach the skills required for their players according to their age and ability. RHSA has a teaching manual for each sport and coaches will be expected to use those techniques defined by RHSA for each sport. Participation at pre-camp training events prior to the summer will help coaches feel more comfortable in their role.
